Only 1 plug had carbon build up

I seach this forum and did not find anybody with the same prob.

The passanger middle plug keeps getting carbon build up. This will make my stops and idle hesitant.

I do burn oil from the tail pipe (no leaks), about 3-4 qts a week or after driving 500 miles. I only see smoke from the tail pipe when I accelerate quickly. Is this my issue? I use STP gas cleaner 2-3 times a month.

Thanks

91 s-10 155k miles, v6 4.3l motor.

Re: Only 1 plug had carbon build up

overdoing the additive for one, and two, do a compression and leak down test, if that turns out ok, then the oil is most likely getting past a lifter.. and your pro says 91 s 10, but what moter? that will help to deturmen the problem

Low compression in that cylinder.

I've had a simular prob with another truck once.

going through that much oil without a visible leak usually means it's time for a rebuild.

for you to loose that much oil from a leak it has to almost pour out while running. I've really only seen this happen past broken sending units

Re: Only 1 plug had carbon build up

No promises but if you can take your truck off the road for 1 or 2 days right before the next oil change, pour in some ATF fluid, or coal oil into that 1 cylinder through the spark plug hole it might loosen up the rings.

If your motor wasn't sitting for a while this trick probably won't work, it just helps loosen up mildly gummed up or rusty rings usually caused by sitting

Some of this oil will probably drain past the rings which is why I said before the oil change.

Re: Only 1 plug had carbon build up

No, do not put ATF and run your engine offroad.

What you need is a safer alternative that doesn't thin the oil out.

Try this stuff www.Auto-rx.com

I am currently using it and you won't believe how much it has helped my engine.

Re: Only 1 plug had carbon build up

That's why I said pour it in the spark plug hole, and just let it sit 1 or 2 days before your oil change.

It'll hopefully remove the gum from the rings, and loosen them up

Your right though LT, adding ATF to your oil will thin it out way to much
