Spark knock in 1987 Monte Carlo 305 4 bbl automatic

I have a 1987 Monte Carlo 305 4 bbl with 46,000 miles. I bought it in 2003 with 26,000 miles -- it really did belong to a little old lady who only drove it to church on Sundays. I have an intermittent problem with spark knock. Can anyone suggest a solution?

I'd check the wire that runs off the coil. See if there's a brake in the wire, check for short.

ok..first of all...check the timing..if all is ok..then i'd go ahead and buy some gm top end cleaner....what you must do with this is start it up rev the engine dump the cleaner down the carb very slowly, dont let it stall..then after 1/2 bottle open her right up and pour it all down to stall it...let it sit for a while preferable 6 hours+...go buy plugs wires rotor, cap, oil, filter....try to start after it has sit while holding the gas to the floor ..if it starts let up off the gas but keep it running untill all the smoke has cleared..once it idles on its own let it run a few min then shut it off...now do the tune up and change the oil.....try her out and see what she does..thsi should cure your problems.
