OverBoardProject 03-29-2005, 07:09 PM how's your cat converter? EightyZ 03-29-2005, 07:24 PM actually i think the exhaust it leaking before the cat. jsgold 03-29-2005, 07:33 PM My 93 had a bad vaccuum leak where a hose fell off because of a combination of previous work and aged hoses. Hurt power wise and idle was erratic. Might try checking your hoses. Cheap fix if so. The EGR valves clog up on these too. might check that as well... EightyZ 03-29-2005, 07:40 PM the idle is fine, i actually went thru and checked all the vac. hoses when i had the dist cap off. everything checked out fine. and where is the egr valve? and how can i check it? jsgold 03-29-2005, 08:38 PM Sits in very front of motor, pain to reach because of lack of space. Would need to buy a EGR gasket, then remove the bolts and look for carbon build up in block and valve. Usually the EGR will cause poor idle as well, but should look at it anyway. Clean with carb cleaner. Unsure what else could be the problem. Could be anything from timing to poor fuel pressure. The 4.3's with CPI injection are bad about the injection spider (regulator, injectors, fuel line feeding it) going bad and leaking in the plenum. Gas can get into oil which is not good either. There are plenty of discussions here on it. Usually a rich gas smell and oil has a gas smell. Might check inside the plenum for possible leakage. I am going to check mine very soon although my oil does not smell like oil. I just want to be safe. I am told if you remove the vortec cap on top of motor, and remove the valve underneath (watch how it came out, needs to go back same way) you can shine a small light into plenum and watch for "washing" which is bright areas that gas has washed clean, Should be dark, no washed areas. Again, plenty of discussion here on it. dmbrisket 51 03-29-2005, 10:31 PM pcv? BlazerLT 03-30-2005, 01:29 AM check the cpi injector. Chances are it is leaking. EightyZ 03-30-2005, 01:11 PM ok, pardon my ignorance but i dont know this motor at all yet. and i dont take my cars to shops. dont get my wrong i know motors. i can pinpoint a problem in my camaro in 2 seconds. this motor is just wierd to me. where is the pcv? and the cpi injector? maybe i should invest in a haynes manual. hah. thanks for all the help guys! OverBoardProject 03-30-2005, 01:54 PM PVC I can help you with, it's almost always between the valve cover, and the intake somewhere. There should be a gas line sized hose between the 2, and it's hooked into this hose somewhere probably right in your valve cover. a Haynes would really help you out in the future.
