New RX-8
Hi - Just purchased a 'new' 2004 RX-8 on Friday from the local dealer. We originally intended to buy an 05 MSM.....but, after driving it, and then taking an RX-8 for a test drive, my wife and I were sold on the RX-8. Great ride, good performance, and a tad more room for passengers (namely kids!) The Dealer 'presented' us with information on an 05 Shinka (which we were very interested in) and his last remaining 04 6-spd with the Touring Package, Appearance Package, Rotary Accents, 6 disc CD, Rr Spoiler, and front fender side strakes package. After much discussion and looking at both cars for a couple of hours.......and.......since the 04 was approx. $6,000 less, we decided to purchase the 04 (Nordic Green Mica - cloth).
A couple of questions.
1) I'm a bit concerned about the 'break-in' period for the motor. This car already has 481 miles on it from the Dealer. I have no idea how it was driven. Any suggestions? Anything to 'worry' about? Should I baby it for a bit or will it not matter at this point?
2) Also, I'm thinking about painting the brake calipers....anyone out there done this? What color would be good with the Nordic Green? I know this may be a silly question (and maybe I won't paint them, but I kinda thought it would add a bit more to the car?).
Thanks
ps - oh yea - I'm very interested in finding an RX-8 poster...any idea's?

Re: New RX-8
I'm more curious about if it was a display car, or test drive car, instead of thinking anything about the break-in yet. Because four hundred something miles is not a lot, but for a new car, it's a little too much. You might want to check with the dealer, because if it was a tester, you know how people test drives.

Re: New RX-8
yeah try to drive it smoothly. it needs more mileage for a full breakin (around 2000 to 3000)

I, personally, would never buy a car with that many miles on it. I searched and found my 8 with 4 miles on it. AS you pointed out, you don't know how it's been driven. For some people, the risk of buying a car with miles is offset buy a lower price, and the you just need to decide what is more important to you.

You can save money ahead if you buy a car like that, but might end up paying more...because the break-in period is really important and it applies to any car...
