Angry 99 'Hoe Engine Noise...Leak??

Hey All! Ok my wife had been complaining about a noise on our Tahoe for the past week..said that it sounded almost like the noise a flat tire makes while tumping onto the pavement. When I drove it I never heard it until today. Coming back form town...from the inside it almost sounded like a kind of chirping/gurgling noise...odd. When we got home I popped the hood with it running and gave her some gas...didnt hear it. That made me think that the engine being under a load was causing it. But about 15 minutes later I went back out and started it up, popped the hood, reached in and gave the throttle cable a little tug and heard it. It remind me of an exhaust leak...only coming from the intake manifold somewhere. I've looked all over the engine from what I can see and didnt notice any cracks or holes or anything...damn I wish there was a way to attach small wav files here so all could hear it. Anyway, it's coming from the driver-side intake, right below the TB/Intake mating surface, almost like it's coming out of that small round thing that the tube that runs from the driver-side valve cover plugs into. I dont have a clue of what it's called. I know it has somehting to do with recirculating gasses. Anyway, If I gas it up to about 2k rpm, and let off real fast as the engine is settling back down to about 800 rpms you can hear it. I mean when I say it sounds like an exhaust leak it really does! But anyone would say that the noise is too high to be coming from the exhaust.... Any Ideas?

Hi.. I am new to this site, because of this very same problem. You explained it exactly as it happens. Most of the time it's just under load, until you gas it a little and as it settles back to idle
you can here the 'Noise'

Please help.

Phil

Re: 99 'Hoe Engine Noise...Leak??

Actually yes I did. If you pop the hood, look over towards your right hand side (driver's side of the engine). Right above the driver-side valve cover there's a hose running from the driver-side exhaust manifold up to a threaded hole in the top of the engine block right next to the thermostat. In my case that brass looking nut had come unscrewed and I actually did have an exhaust leak.
