Rear View mirror......

My Trailblazer just came with the standard rear view mirror. Do you guys think it would be difficult to upgrade to the auto dimming version with the compass and temp readout?

I was also looking at replacing the door mirrors with the Envoy type mirrors with the turn indicators built in. Has anyone made that change?

Re: Rear View mirror......

I've added this mirror to mine, and it was pretty straightforward. You need to hook up four wires...power and ground, and two for the temp sensor. That's it. The autodimming is pretty useless, as the back window (on my EXT is so far away, and deep tinted anyhow....

hope you don't mind that I ask where did you get it and for how much? Did it come with instructions on how to install?

No problem.....

I bought one from a 2000ish Escalade off of E-bay. I think I paid about $60 for it, and it included a stub harness and the temp sensor.

Instructions? LOL! That's a good one No, pretty much with any OEM part you swap into your truck/car, you need to pick up a wiring diagram for your vehicle and also for the system you are swapping in from the donor vehicle. I've done tons of OEM swaps (including complete engines, etc) so it's pretty easy.

As for the hookup, it's pretty tough to get any easier than four wires....two of which are to a sensor, one is ground, and one is switched power.

I think there are a couple of aftermarket units available with these features, but they run around $200. I assume instructions come with them....

I was thinking of picking an OEM unit for my Trailblazer from a dealer parts guy who used to hook me up when I had my Camaro. If not then I'll look for a unit from somewhere else. Thanks for the info.
