what is the name of the part that......

I have a 1974 Volkswagen Super Beetle and need to know the name of a part. Underneath the car inbetween the two floor panels(in the center of the car) is a lon narrow piece that runs from the back to the front of the car. This part is all rusted out and needs to be replaced on my car. Please tell me what this part is called, and even better if you can tell me where I can buy it at. Like I said it is a long and narrow piece that runs from the back of the car to the front of the car, and is located inbetween the driver's floor pan, and passenger's floor pan. PLEASE HELP.

I'm not up on Super Beetles that much, but are you talking about the shift rod? If so, you can get one at www.cip1.com.
