Check engine light+weird code

The CEL just came on in my 96 328is, I used the reset and code reader I purchased from bav auto and I got code E9 from it. I looked in the the book and it says it is the "automatic start" code. I don't have the four digit conversion for the standard OBDII codes. An ideas what this means?

Dont wast your money on code readers!

Dealerships will tell you the real problem for free with there computer.
what ever you do, dont let them take advantage of you because they will.

Example: $.05 worth of rubber hose that was craked would have cost me over $500 and $100 to tell me that!!!!!
