My F 250 just died . Went to store just fine came out started it and it was making a serious rattling sound. Didn't sound like the motor maybe altenator. So I had the altenator tested passed but the bearings were going, it was loud just like when i started it. still nothing. 1987, 460

Have you tried the starter, it sounds like what my truck was doing and it was my starter
