Thumbs down Engine Spraying Coolant...

Well its offical my 99 Grand AM SE is a pile of JUNK!

Lately I have been having coolant problems, my light would come on everyonce in a while... like once or twice a month, so I would add more coolant. I actually had to have my coolant drained back in December bc it was a pinkish color isteand of orange. Since then I have had to add coolant once to twice a month... well yesterday my car started smoking when it would be stopped... ends up being when you rev the engine, coolant sprays out of the right side. Monro muffler says I need a new Head/intake gasket...

Where I am actually getting it fixed hasnt looked at it yet, but doesnt seem to think its that that I need.Lucky for me the oil is good still in my car, so not too much damage has been done! Meanwhile if I drive my car, I go through a gallon of coolant probably every other day.

GM SUCKS! had I known about this whole gasket problem... i wouldnt of boughten my car.

If its on the right hand side it may be water pump, it could tend to spray coolant more then bad gasket

I hope its the water pump. The guy that is fixing it or going to be, said it sounds like a hose or something.. Monro Muffler said that it was probably just a water pump but they are the ones that ended up saying its my gaskets.. who knows ill find out for sure what it is today hopefuly!

Re: Engine Spraying Coolant...

If it was a gasket it is not likely to "spray" most times when the gasket goes bad it will leak into the the cylinders and you would get the coolant and oil mixing and you would be burning the coolant and getting excessive smoke from the tail pipe.

It does sound like a water pump or hose especially if you say it is spraying more when you give it gas, when you do this the water pump spins faster thus moves more coolant that extra push of coolant would cause the spray.

Good luck,

I'm with Hoags here, sounds like open hose.

Sigh, but at least ya know what's wrong now, so the intake and head don't get damaged.
