1993 chevy cavalier OVERHEATINGbenfu 03-16-2005, 07:50 PM Recently I had to replace the head gasket on the car. When I put it back together, it started overheating. Checked the thermostat. Doesn't pop after a boil test, replace it, still overheats. Checked to make sure the fan was working, unplugged it and plugged it back in. STILL NOTHING! I know the problem isn't electrical because I smell that funky stench of a radiator in distress. It stalls out, I put it in park, start it back up, put it in drive and it stalls again. I'm tired of pushing this bucket around, for the love of God help me! benfu 03-17-2005, 03:15 PM Anybody? Please? I'm really desperate... Nitrous_Boy 03-17-2005, 09:20 PM make sure that you have all of the air out. checked the bleader valves and see if you can get a test done on your water pump 4dr92cavi4cyl 03-18-2005, 12:55 PM I assume you replaced it because it blew the old gasket? If you didn't service the head it's probably warped and it's blowing the new one. My old 2.2 (RIP) had a leaky lower rad. hose, I was leaving to fix it and it blew, a minute later it was too late. Well I had a friend of a friend fix it cheap. He tested it for cracks but didn't have it planed/shaved. It made a bubbling sound for two weeks, then I'm cruising down I-81 and I hear this "Peeewsh!" sound, and the temp was heading north, again. It had blown a chunk out of the gasket. This time I had someone else fix it right, that motor made it through a couple more years before spinning a bearing. Is it easy to start? Any water in the oil? 2.2? benfu 03-18-2005, 02:18 PM I assume you replaced it because it blew the old gasket? If you didn't service the head it's probably warped and it's blowing the new one. Any water in the oil? 2.2? No, I did the repairs myself. The weird thing was... There was oil in the water (in the overflow) but absolutely NO water in the oil. The block hadn't cracked, so I'm thinking I caught it just in time. After piecing everything back together, it starts overheating... And yes, it's a 4 cylinder 2.2 liter. 4dr92cavi4cyl 03-18-2005, 02:56 PM If you have high miles on the radiator it may need to be flushed. I still need to do mine! deadBird 03-18-2005, 04:44 PM You might not have re-torqued the bolts properly. Possibly air though. chevygirl94 07-27-2005, 02:35 PM 94 chevy cavalier radiator fan don't turn on, don't know where the fuse is. 4dr92cavi4cyl 07-27-2005, 03:09 PM Maybe in the fuse box? Check the connector on the fan, it may have popped loose... phlegm_bunny 07-28-2005, 11:44 PM I currently have a problem that is very similar. its a 97 cavalier and it over heats. The weird thing is that the fan does not come on until after it starts overheating. Not sure what to do. It also has the same problem with stalling out but when I restart it, it will run very rough. any help is greatly appreciated. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
