anti-lock trouble?

OK, have my 97 z24 with 174k on it and today returning from a trip the anti lock brake light came on. I pulled over and turned the ign off waited a moment, started it back up and it reset. Started on down the road and heard a click, like a relay, or switch and it came back on. After trying this a few times with little or no luck, I resigned to the fact that something is busted. Normally when you turn the ign on that relay for the anti lock cycles through like making a series of short clicks real fast and the system is set. Mine will now only make about a short click and nothing else. Dealer said no safety problems and it should have put a code in the computer. Should I look into this?, or can you disconnect the whole works which would make the light in the dash go off. Bugs you at night being bright orange. Thanks in advance.
