AM/FM Stereo

I just recently bought a 2000 1.8T Passat with only 34,500 miles. I immediately had it checked for recall notices and the powertrain warranty was still valid, so had them replaced the camshaft seals. Love the car, but I have 2 issues that I can't figure. The FM stereo and CD changer work, but I have absolutely no reception on the AM side. Not even a mumble (There is static). Is this a fuse issue?

About 2 weeks after buying the car, it started running rough. It sounds a little like a go-cart at times at lower RPM's. Is this just a tune-up issue or are there other engine issues I don't know about?

I don't want to run immediately to the dealer and get screwed. I would appreciate anybody's thoughts on these.
