Z-24 towing capacity

Does anyone know what GM says about towing stuff with the 2000 2.4L ?
I sold my pickup and wanted to tow around my two dirtbikes on a small trailer behind my cavalier. Am i pooched? Do i need GM to make computer adjustments first? I really need to know before i weld a tow bar there. I bought used and never got a manual with my car

Thanks for your time guys.
Charlie..

Re: Z-24 towing capacity?

Well, on my 2003 the owners manual says its OK to tow with an automatic, but not to tow with the manual. Your car is probably the same. The owners manual says how much weight I can tow, but its out in the car right now.

LOL
Sorry about that. I'm seeing 1000 lbs for my car with an automatic, but my engine is an Ecotec instead of the TwinCam 2.4 in yours. It should be similar. Check it out, scroll down to the tow capacity.

Nice! My bikes + trailer weigh about 700-750lbs. I checked your link. thanks for your help KJrich. Sounds like i'm a go for spring without buying something else to tow with. I'm gonna run this bastard like an illegal immigrant working at walmart!
Thanks again...... Charlie

Re: Z-24 towing capacity?

Glad to be able to help. Looks like you are within the tow weight.
