warning sound for 94 cavalier

All of a sudden I have this warning sound going off in my car while I'm driving, similar to the warning beeps heard when the key is left in the ignition with the door ajar. But the frequency is faster. It keeps going on and off, with no warning lights turning on. Engine seems to be running fine. Any idea what could cause this?

is your E brake on?.... sometimes people forget it is... maybe the activation switch has a short in it?

Re: warning sound for 94 cavalier

Emergency break not on - and I checked the oil just to be sure. I think the suggestion of a short or fuse problem in the activation switch seems to make sense. What's weird is that the warning sound only happens while the car is driving - as soon as I brake the alarm stops.

also consider...

check trunk, hood and door too, also seatbelts.any one of those might be bad also.not sure if your car has alarms for all those though.maybe fuel warning and light is out?maybe warning light is out in dash?do all of them come on when you turn key to on?

check the battery and the alternator with a voltometer to see what current is comming off of them. There may be a wiring problem leading to the battery, if you fried a wire in that circuit a similar sound can be heard. Search the forums to see what an average battery and an alt. should be at, I cant remember off hand.

Check wiring associated with your headlighting and related. It appears the monitoring system might be misinterpreting the status by warning you that you have shut-down and left your lights on.
Btw, the ignition assy on 94's can be pretty fickle too. The cabling attached to the ignition lock stretches over time and thinks something is amiss, hence a rapid warning chime.
