Unhappy 93 cavalier drains power

I have a 93 cavalier, and if I let it sit without running for 12 hours or more, it will not start. It seems to work fine during the summer when its warm, but it has to be jumped every morning during the winter. I know it has to be a connection or a ground somewhere because the batery is brand new. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? I cant stand having to jump it every day.

Read the post I just made here http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=375588

If you don't have a test light, use a multimeter. It should be quick to find. Don't forget about the fact the dome light will want to come on when doing this test. If after pulling fuses, you don't find the culpret, start looking at things that aren't in the fuse block.

Don't assume that the battery is good just because it is new. If it has a bad cell it could cause a problem like this. I have the same problem in a 1998 Jeep. New batteries have been known to die quickly. Have the battery tested as well as the alternator.

Re: 93 cavalier drains power

do you only do short trips in the car with everything ,heater, stereo etc running? if so then in the cold what is happening is that when you strat you take a big chunk of power from the battery and that isn't being replaces as all of the alternators output is beging spoken for! If this is the case then just take it for a 20-30 minute run every so often! always happens to people who don't travel far! Have had to go look at 3 cars within the last 6 mths that had this same problem! Just told them to take it for a long-ish run every so often, no problems since!
