fuel pump whines-warm weather woes

pro response much appreciated...

my 1994 4runner runs great in cool weather
cold start good, plenty of power...smooth running
***
in warmer weather it cranks and cranks and starts when it gets ready to -10-15 seconds (usually 3 tries) (burned out one starter, already)
****
truck runs good around town for a while...but waiting at a light, you'll start to hear whining from the right rear, which i can only assume is the fuel pump...gets worse and worse...soon idle rpms drop..and if i don't catch the traffic lights just right..i'm lucky to make it home..
--let her cool off for 30-40 minutes, and she's good for another (short) round of errands
****
also when it's hot, fuel pump whining, cutting off, hard to crank, it's not unusual for the starter to quit, until everything cools down. the new (6mos.) starter is not as bad as the old one but getting worse.
****
also under these conditions, the a/c will most likely knock-off.
***
i can see a connection between the fuel and overworking the starter...but what' the a/c got to do with it..?
***
the a/c problem was noticed first
***
160,000 mi...owned it 2 yrs.
***
the engine never evr runs hot by the guage, never boiled over never added water...les than a gal of antifreeze since i've owned it.
***
north carolina gets hot in the summer, but something's wrong
no probs in winter
***
engine was replaced before i bought it...hack job on wiring is evident.
will a new fuel pump fix it...? what about the a/c...?

thanks

If The Whinning Sound Is From The Fuel Pump Then Yes You Have A Bad Fuel Pump. It Also Could Be In The Injectors Clogging Up And Putting Alot Of Pressure On The Pump Casueing It To Whin. Check Both.

thanks for the quick reponse..

but how do i "check both"
i don't have a lot of money for dealership mechanics
i'm not a mechanic,..and i have just a few basic tools
i don't mind spending 150.00 for a pump and maybe that much for labor,..but i hate to just throw parts at it, until something works...?
as far as i can tell the whining is from the pump...it's definitely down behind the right rear tire..
as for the injectors, i wouldn't know how to check.
i know what injectors are, and i can actually see 3 or 4 of them but...
***
like i say, the truck runs like brand new when it's cool..
but when it warms up, it falls apart...
on really cold days, ithink i'm driving a new vehicle

thanks
mac

All You Can Do Is Take The Injectors Out. Get Carb Cleaner And Soke Them In That. Its Not Hard Are All To Do. A Few Nuts And Bolts. All You Have To Do Is Take The Fuel Rail Of And They Will Pop Right Out. As Far As The Pump Goes, Just Take That Off And Go To A Autozone And Get It Tested. They Will Tell You If Its Bad Or Not. That Doesnt Cost Anything. You Also Can Get A Pump From A Junkyard. They Work Fine, And There Cheap. Nothing That Your Talking About Is Hard To Do At All. And The Parts Arnt That Expensive.

i guess one question would be..."what does warm weather have to do with it..?
i got thru the winter fine, but with spring around the corner, i'm gonna have to do something..
i have to make my repair bucks count..
i need new tires,..a cv boot,..ect,ect later.
right now starting and running is my prioity
i was hoping to get some education before i plunk down $300 for a fuel pump...it quit altogether once before, had to get towed..bought a fuel pump and then i was told that "it was a loose wire,..and u really don't need a fuel pump after all.."
(the mechanic said that some shops would have just kept the pump and charged me for replacement..)
***
is there a way to know reasonbly sure without replacing the pump..?
if it whines is it a bad pump...?
could it be a bad ground..?
and WHY is it weather related...?
maybe there aren't sure-fire answers for this, and i just cross my fingers and buy a pump....

There Really Isnt A Deffinet Answer To The Problem. I Dont Really Seeing It Be A Wire Problem, If It Works Fine Now. The Only Thing I Can Say Is That The Warmer The Weather The Thinner Your Gas Will Be. If You Pump Is Having Problems Dealing With That Is Will Whin. Also You Can Get A Fuel Pump At A Junk Yard For 50 Bucks, Or Around That. I Guess You Would Have To Cross Your Fingers But I Would Have To Say Thats My Final Answer. Lol

ok
what ur saying makes sense...guess i'll have to get my hands dirty...
i guess the pump is inside the tank..i'll have to drop the tank- i have a haynes book(1979-1995) but it's pretty sketchy..
this is my only car so i'll be w/out wheels however i go about it..
***
also..what about the MAF...my rpms lope in the 20-30(100) range...i can duplicate this if i stick my hand up in the breather and move the flap inther... if i push it open it "drops out just like it does when i'm cuising along at 30mph...
i appeciate the help...i'm gonnna try to get another year or two out of this truck now that i have it almost paid off..
