Mk3 Dodgy 12v ignition line due to key switch?!

Hi,

Just installed a new head unit (to go with my external HD MP3 player). Got on the motorway with music up loud ( ), twenty mins into journey the music died! After much time spent verifying my head unit install I found that by jiggling the key the 12volt ignition switched line, that powers my head unit n mp3 player, becomes intermittent...on/off...mainly off .

Anyone else suffered from this? Can it be fixed? Or should I take it to a garage for repair? Anyone know the cost of a new ignition key unit thingy??

Cheers
Ste

'97's are well known for ignition switch failures.
