93 Cav. 2.2

Somtimes hits on all four cylinders and sometimes not. Most of the time its like flipping a switch, other times it sputters a little before I lose two cylinders. Drove all the way from work on just two cylinders yesterday.

Looking under the hood, its the far right, and far left that do not always fire. Could tell this by pulling the boots off the plugs. No spark at all. (remeber this is not always the case, i can sometimes go for miles w/ no prb.) Excess gas is going to the cat and burning causing it to glow.

Changed plugs, plug wires, coil packs, ingnition module tested ok at autozone. New cranshaft sensor to.

Getting really pissed, seems like I've changed every part that would be needed to fix this pain. BTW, I was told it could be a fire hazard by all the fuel not burning when its acting up. The cat seems to be taking care of that though. I do get an excess smell of gas coming through the vents.


Need some ideas, opinions, looking for help here guys!

You have a bad coil pack or a dirty ground on one. One coil fires cylinders 1 & 4, the other fires cylinders 2 & 3. They can test GOOD when cold but fail when hot due to expansion. While you are "down and dirty" I would change both if you haven't already (your post was unclear). Good Luck.

Yes, both coil packs are new. It was the ignition module that the packs bolt to which was tested. It tested ok at autozone. A new one is around $115, I was thinking that although it tested fine, the car occasionaly runs fine, which in turn could have tested ok at that particular moment.

Sheesh, does that make since.

Open for any ideas/comments!!!!!!!!

Well, the module only provides spark up to 400 rpm then the ECM takes over. The connector for the coils does go through the module and could be loose, so it could still be your problem. You might want to try a junk yard unit just to test.

Thanks for your input. I traced both cylinders to the same coil pack. Took everything loose and snugged them back. The cylinders to that coil pack is the one that wires in to the crankshaft sensor (which is new also). Still no fire one one & four.

Took the plugs out checked them snugged them back and the boots. Reset the computer and started it, after a terrible idle for about 5 minutes, it started to hit on all four and the the idle smoothed out.

Garantee on the way to work tomm. it will do the same old stuff, drop two cylinders and run like shit. I'ts really hard to pull these wv hills with just two bangin'.

Any ideas?
