Chevy 350 guys
Hey hows it going fellas. I was wondering if you guys might be able to help me with getting some more HP on my 350. I actually have a '79 Z28, but I know that there are alot of similarites under the hoods. Surprisingly enough i wasn't able to get any good answers at the camaro forum. I have a Rochester Q-jet,some headers and dual exhaust but with glass packs. Any suggestions would be a real help. I heard you could swap some 69-72 heads and get a decent boost, but I need someone to verify if this is true. My budget is about a 1,200 dollars. Little stuff or big I'm open to any suggestions/tips. Thanks fellas, keep up the good work.

A better carb, a better intake manifold, a better cam, and some head work. I personally wouldn't go with a different set of heads, just drop 300 bucks into yours and they can perform just as good.

What kind of work could they do with my stock heads? About the carb, do you know of any that meet emissions requirements and also have the hookups for the vacumn lines?

you can port and polish your heads? pretty easy to do yourself. About the carb i know most of the Edelbrock carbs meet 50 state regs.

With a 1200 dollar budget I'd go for a pair of the new gm vortec heads($510), of course youll have to go with the new style intake (edelbrock performer vortec ($170), junk the quadrajet, and try an edelbrock performer (750cfm $250). Add a decent competition/crane cam($170) to that package and itll go plus get rid of the extra weight of that $1200. You could probably find some of this stuff cheaper or used too, jeremy

You can get your heads cut for bigger valves, get them set up with better valve spings to support a higher lift cam, get them shaved to bump compression which woll bump power. IMHO, if you dont know how to do it already, I wouldn't try to port and polish a set of heads yourself. You can port-match the intake to the heads and it will help out some as well.

Re: Chevy 350 guys
Use your money for a nice set of heads and a hp intake manifold not a new carb. The Q-jet is 750 cfm and will easily supply a 500 horse engine which you'll never have if you don't change the heads. It just needs to be tuned to the combo.
