'92 VW jetta Gl Ecu Trouble Code Retrieval

i was wonderin how to retrieve the codes thown by the ecu... what procedure is to be taken if anyone can help it would be much appreciated... i want the code retrieval without a scan tool thanksss......

The diagnostic plugs are located under the shifter boot, there is a white and black two-pin connector. The pins you will want to jumper together are as follows. Turn the black connector so the chamfered edges are at the top (like the letter A), you want to connect to the lower pin. Turn the white connector so the chamfered edges are at the right (like the letter D), you want the lower pin also. Now, first turn the ignition to on position, then connect the jumper wire, a paper clip will work, between the two pins for about 3-4 seconds then disconnect. The check engine light should begin to flash a repeating sequence of four digit codes separated by longer pauses. One flash, pause, two flashes, pause one flash, pause, three flashes, long pause would be code 1213. Code 4444 indicates end of codes or no codes found if it's the only code. Post your results & I can give their meaning.

I have A 1993 Jetta and can not locate flash code test terminal not behind ash tray or under shifter boot any info anybody
