Question 99 neon crankshaft damper

I have a 99 neon with a 2.0 that doesn't want to let go of its crank damper. I've tried the 3 jawed puller that the manual recommends, so far i've bent the damper bolt, and cracked the hub portion of the damper. Has anyone seen this problem before? is there anything to make it easier?

Re: Re: Re: 99 neon crankshaft damper

The one I pulled did not give me any trouble. The only thing i found was that the bolt has to stay in damper loosen it so there is about 1/4" between the head of the bolt and the damper. Then it should come. Also try to use some WD-40 or penetrating oil. if that doesn't work then it sounds like you need a new damper anyway if it is cracked then use a diegrinder and cut the old one off.

Do not use a torch to cut the old one off as it will fry the crank seal.
