fuel pump on 74 super

is the 74 super supposed to have a fuel pump or is this one of the other "upgrades" the old owner made to it? it also used to have a fuel pressure regulator and a toggle switch to turn the power off/on to the pump. if it's not standard, will it hurt anything to have it? he also had it set up with three fuel filters, but the second one is almost an "body off frame" job to change. what kind of trouble am i looking at to at least main line that filter out and make it regular tubing again? it runs better without the pressure regulator on it, i think it was causing it to be starved and ran poorly. but is the pump supposed to be there?

Sounds like an electric fuel pump add on.

Is this a fuel injected engine? If so, someone else will have to jump in. I don't know nuttin about FI.

Re: fuel pump on 74 super

If it's a pulse type pump (you will hear it make a clicl, clicl, click type noise) it only runs 5-10 psi & won't need a regulator. They have a hard time delivering enough fuel in the first place & I'd think about putting a mechanical pump back on if possible. If it's a cylindrical vane type pump (it will make an electric motor type whirring noise) you would need a pressure regulator.
