Swapping a 4 speed into your nova isnt really hard at all. Some Nova's came stock with 4 speeds (never the m-22 "rockcrusher" your talking about) but some came with the M-21's. The hard part is actually finding the transmission. Cutting the whole for the shifter, rigging up a clutch pedal, and all of the other little thing are what really take time.

For your second question, any rearend will fit if you have the money to make it fit. As far as a direct bolt in replacement, I believe only Chevelles, Camaros, and other Novas will work, but the chevelle has coil spring where as the novas have leaf springs, so a few modifications are needed to make it work correctly.

Hope this helps.
