Exclamation 97 Neon, 90K, Having speedometer issues!

Hey!

I searched the forum and didn't really come across an answer I wanted.

So the neon has had a rough night... Some lady scratched it! That set me off, stupid grand prix... And the speedometer jumps from 30 down to 0 and sometimes it will work.

I'd like to know why. I read something about the gauge something.

Is it worth a trip to the mechanics? And how much might it cost to get fixed...

Was really paranoid when I entered the turn and it read 0 MPH! I was like what in the world?! I knew I was doing at least 40 MPH... Scared me...

So any input would be great!
