1996 Dodge Caravan Transmission

This van is now on its 6th transmission and is in the shop for a rebuild job, does anybody have any ideas. 5 of those units were under warranty and the dealer swore there were no underlying problems. It wasn't giving any error codes (never has) just starting shifting hard and refusing to shift out of 2nd (same as every other time except the first. That time it just died in the middle of the freeway). Killing the engine and restarting would at least get it to shift, once it shifted into 3rd the first time it would be fine until the next time it sat until the engine was completely cold. This van has made me never want another Dodge porduct.
