Here we go again HELP
Well I have replaced all O2 sensors, because they were giving a rich code and I wanted to improve gas milelage and that was the soul purpose of this mission.Replaced O2 sensors and then it started to run like shit and puff black smoke. So then I replaced The MAF sensor, now problem is worse yet.It runs like a old steam engine chugging and black smoke flying. Here is the deal. When it's cold it runs fine.Once it gets to temp all hell breaks loose. It starts this chugging thing and black smoke starts coming out the exhaust.Get the gas about half way down(or pin it)and the truck gets past this chugging stage. It almost seems as though it has a miss.So I took it for a hell ride and it cleared up.Left it set and black smoke starts to come out again. It almost sounds like it has a miss constantly.I opened the hood and heard the pcv valve rattling. Is this normal? The truck idles rough.Still getting O2 lean code.About to give up here.

Re: Here we go again HELP
Have you checked you're injectors? They could be dumping fuel causing the rich condition at this point

I have a throttle body, never thought of that though. Can you check it or just replace it?The injector that is.If it was pouring in then why do I get the lean code on banks 1and 2.Then the black smoke because it's runnin to rich.

You have a 98, you don't have throttlebody (throttle body stopped being produced in 95) You have CSFI, (all trucks from 96 to current use CSFI) You have a single main injector fired sequentially to 6 lines. More than likely one is stuck open. You need to pull the upper plenum... Fortunatly with your design you can replace an idividual line..

How the hell did he manage to do that? The 98 distributor is locked..(at least on the 4.3)...He must have dropped the distributor in a tooth off to the left when he put it back in. Surprised it even started.

Ya it ran and idled, just horriable on gas.Try 10 miles to a gallon and that was a good day.Although it never seemed like it had the power that it shoud've.

You best be replacing the plugs if it was running that rich.
They are probably really fouled.

Never thought of that. The plugs in it are brand new too with not even a 1000 mile on them.
