1999 Grand Cherokee Limited V8 90,000 miles

I have this problem, The jeep will start and idle fine but however it wont go over 2500rpms when stepping on accelerator, almost like a rev limiter. you have to slowly acell to get anywhere if you try to take off to fast it will hit 2500-3000rpms and not shift then check engine light will come on then will idle rough and then sometimes die. Previously in the early stages of this problem took to dealer they scanned found no codes for anything cept for missfires so they recommended tune up of course it was done the problem has constantly got worse. Any ideas or solutions would be great.

Recheck the codes, take the jeep to Autozone (with Check Engine light ON) they will scan it and tell you what the problem is or what the code is, then post it here, and we can help. There are probably a million things that we could suggest but it is easier and cheaper if we knew what the code was.

dk is right,you gotta have the codes.When it was tuned up,did they change the fuel filter?The filter on this also contains the regulator and its like $80.At 90K miles ,it could be due.If I had to guess,I would say it is either the filter or it could be the catalytic converter clogged
