1994 S-10 4X4 with Vortec Engine Overheating

Hi, my 1994 S-10 with vortec engine is overheating, it runs great except for the this problem, I have checked the radiator and replaced the thermostat and the fan clutch, I also replaced the cat and the muffler, the check engine light is off, now I want to check if the engine timing is right, does anyone know what timing does the S-10 uses? or another idea why is it overheating?

not for sure what degree to set timming on your year. mines a 91 and is set for 0 degree, but i dont have a vortec. it should tell you on one of the labels under the hood. same label will give you motor size, plug gap, and
timing set. after you check you timing and if thats not the prblem, you should check the water pump.

1994 4.3L v6 plug gap 0.035 0 degree- disconnect the set timing connector ( tan w/black stripe) taped to the engine harness neer the distributor

THIS WIRE MUST BE DISCONNECT BEFORE YOU START THE ENGINE

My 94 s-10 4.3 cortech was overheating too ...Is yours losing water ?

Mine was but only after it warmed up and I was driving (under pressure) I finally found it. It waqs the "snout hole" on the underside of the water pump.

I guess when the water pump shaft gets worn it will tear a rubber seal and cause it to leak out of that hole ..

I replaced the water pump and everything is fine now.

Thanks, you were right, it was the water pump. Now I have another problem when I stop with the engine running it appears that the engine is going to stop, the rpm drop to 500 and then in a blink retur to normal and it keeps doing that until I start moving again, it runs perfect when I'm moving and when the truck is cold, any ideas?

sounds like a vacume leak... Check all your vac hoses one at a time for cracks/tears/hoes

Might be the EGR valve, when it carbons up it can cause rough idle.

Clean your EGR and IAC valve.
