initial ignition timing advance possible?

My previous 5.0 Mustang and Infiniti G20 both responded well to advancing the initial timing (6 degrees for Mustang, 3 degrees for G20) and running 93 octane gas. Can this be done to pick up easy horsepower on a 1997 Acura CL 3.0?
