What's early vs late 99 Golf?

I just bought a used 99 Golf (VIN# WVWGC31J4XW...) manufactured in 12/98
and am interested in purchasing an aftermarket (Bentley) repair manual for
it. However, the manuals cover 93-99 or 99-05. What is is the difference
between early 99 and late 99? (Is a Golf-III an early 99 and a Golf-IV a late
99?) How do I tell which I have? Thanks in advance...
