John, have you ever been able to find their websites? I have tried to search for M. Turner but I get online art galleries not the actual artist's site. I bought his book on painting race cars. He uses gouache paint. Have you ever tried that? Any opinions on gouache vs. oil? Thx al Blip 03-01-2005, 04:43 PM Amazing work--how many weeks/months did it take finish the painting? I only work with pen & marker or vector programs so I have no idea how much time you invest in creating such a fantastic image. Jeep_Rubicon 03-01-2005, 08:34 PM Awesome! Excellent Work. I have tried to search for M. Turner but I get online art galleries not the actual artist's site. I bought his book on painting race cars. He uses gouache paint. Have you ever tried that? Any opinions on gouache vs. oil? Thx al no I am not aware of any official M turner website, let me know if you find anything. I have not used gouache for years, probably put off by cheap student pigments. I use oils for their saturation, covering ability and permanence. There are no brighter paints in my opinion and they tend to dry the same tone as when wet which is useful. The range of tones and colours possible with oils give the subject an almost physical presence - hopefully. I suspect gouache would 'pick up' if over-worked whereas with oils you get more attempts at getting things right without ruining the picture. I would recommend acrylics for the same reason and as a great introduction to oil techniques but with much less mess. regards. stuffbyalex 03-02-2005, 03:35 PM Incredible painting John!
