1998 Accent - Removing Window Crank

My driver side window has become loose and I need to remove the panel in order to access the fasteners but I can't seem to remove the window crank. I don't see any clip like on my truck or anything and I didin't want to tug on the handle and break it either.

So how are the window cranks removed? And is there anything else I should know while I'm there? Thanks

The window regulator handle (crank) removal procedure is outlined in Hyundai Webtech.

Specifically here. Just scroll down to the removal section.

Thanks for the link, there's alot of valuable information on there. Much appreciated!

As far as the window handle goes, I didn't quite understand how that was done; basically, I should place a piece of cloth and pull down? Will that sort of "unlatch" the handle? What about placing it back in there, does it just snap back in if I push it upwards?

To be honest with you, I would not know. In fact when this question first came up a while ago (you were not the only one with the same question) I found it odd that it said to use a cloth behind it to take it off. I always used a door tool or something on my older vehicles. But you bring up a valid secondary question in "how you put it back". The instructions don't say and maybe it does just pop back in. If you find out how, please post back.

i did this about a week ago,i broke the crank handle trying to remove it and had to get another at a salvage yard.if you get it off thats the hard part, putting it back on is easy it just snaps back on with a little force.

Where exactly is the rag supposed to be placed? On the small pinion thing in behind the actual handle or directly on it?

And I'm actually going the change the crank for a plastic chrome one to fit with my interior so replacing it doesn't hassle me too much.

i'm new here,i didn't know about this rag thing at tthe time, but from experience i figured there was a clip holding it on and there was, but i couldn't get at it so i pried it with a screwdriver hoping it would pop off and thats how i broke it.as for the rag procedure it looks like you just put it between the handle and the door panel and pull down.

Follow the link that others have in there messages, turn the crank so it points up, slide the cloth down and pull so it is between the door and crank, then just pull on one side, when the cloth comes out the pin should get stuck and come with it. It took 2 or 3 tries, i just used an old soccer sock( long sock). then it just slides off
