Cool Learned Something New Tonight!!

You may think I am crazy, but I learned something new tonight while driving home. The avg fuel economy shown on my vehicle was staying right around 16, and slowly rising. That is due to the trailer that I had recently been pulling around.

Well, I looked at the instantaneous economy and I was getting right around 19-22 on the highway. Well, the avg was SLOWLY getting higher, but not fast enough. I am not sure how many miles it looks back at for the avg but it wasn't rising fast enough.

I don't know what possesed me to try this, but while it was showing the avg, I reached down and pushed the "Enter" button on the steering wheel. (Bottom right key that looks like a "return" key on a keyboard) I held it for a few seconds, and the numbers went away, then came right back, showing my "instantaneous" and I could watch it slowly become an avg. It was actually pretty interesting watching the decimal go up and down, until finally "averaging" out.

Anyway, I thought it was pretty neat. It gives you a way to reset the miles and start from 0 for your avg economy. For example, when you first hook the trailer up, you can reset it and see what avg economy you get with it, starting from 0. Same thing when you unhook the trailer.

I thought it was something interesting that I would pass on and let you guys try out. I thought it was pretty neat. I learn new stuff about my truck all the time. I love it!!

Smile

I tried this for the first time today in my 2004 TB LT with 4400 miles on her....The "initial" DIC mileage readings were in the 13.9-14.8mpg area, and after resetting it,the numbers rose almost 2mpg!!! I have been doing relatively the same type of roadway driving,so I think that it was re-calculating the mpg in a more spread out way, based on more cumulative mileage being accounted for....I'm no mathemetician,it's only a theory, anyone else out there have any input???

That is what I was thinking. It must take into account a lot of your previous milieage in order to make it a "true" avg. Either way....for it to go up 2 mpg is pretty nice. I am curious to see how it plays out, and how long it takes for it to go back down...if it does.

Yeah,I had mine read cover to cover in the 24 hrs. that it took to prep my truck before signing the purchase agreement....I probably skipped over the part about monkeying with the DIC....There was plenty more important info to be read about than that....Anyways, how's everyone else's mileage working out after resetting the avg. mpg???
