headlight assembly question

My girlfriend just got an Aveo and in the headlight assembly there appears to be an unused light. It's round and is outward of the actual headlight. Does anyone know what this is for or if there is a way to make it functional? Thanks.

unused socket in headlight

That light socket /location is used in other countries for a city light (low powered running light for city use) I don't know of any way to use it because of blockage of back of socket. I am going to take headlight assy out when I return home from vacation and try to install some high output white LEDs. Have heard of attempts to use light bulb sockets but they popped off the lens inside headlight and had to disassemble headlight. Be careful with any modification, headlight assemblies are expensive! The modification might be redundant since there is daytime running lights in US cars negating the use of a city light,
