no brake lights and can't get car out of park

My brake lights quit working today and when I parked the car and shut it off I couldn't get it out of park either.....I found the brake fuse and its okay. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated......I am driving a 1994 Toyota Camry 2.2 4 cyl XLE

Have you checked the brake switch which is mounted under the dash. It is actuated when you press the brake pedal and it tells the computer that you are pressing the pedal and it rurns on the brake lights. If the switch is deffective or missadjusted the brake lights will not turn on.

Will the brake switch not let me take the car out of park as well?

That is correct. I had the same problem on my daughters '92 Camry and the only way to get it out of park was to depress the shifter override switch. The brake switch is a bit challenging to get at as it hits the brake pedal arm at about the point it disappears under the dash. Good luck!!

Thanks for the info. I will change the brake light switch. Do you know of an online site to get a copy of the schematic?

I didn't see the need for a schematic so I did not pursue it. Not sure where you would find one but you shouldnt need it. Just unplug the wiring harness and remove the nut that holds it on. Good luck!!
