Question XM Radio...

A friend of mine is getting rid of his civic asked me if i wanted to buy his xm radio setup. Now my head unit is xm ready, he was just going to sell me whatever the other thing is that i would need for $50.

My question is for anyone who already has it... do you like it? is it worth the $10 a month? The only reason he asked me if i wanted it is because he said theirs alot of stations that have underground stuff that i like. Honestly, i hate regular radio, i always have a cd in. Im definetly going to sit in his car for a wile and browse along the stations and see if i like it. I just want to know what some other people think about it.

Re: XM Radio...

I love the XM radio. Have had it for nearly three years.

My taste for music is all over the spectrum. And it has channels for nearly any taste in Music.

Music channels are now all commercial free. Sports, news and talk still have commercials.

Re: XM Radio...

I've had it since before Christmas and I wouldn't get rid of it for anyThing. Definately worth the $10/MO and if you buy it by the year its even cheaper.

Re: XM Radio...

I have had it for a couple years now in my wifes tahoe and love it. well worth the money per month. i am going to get the skyfi2 for my truck when i get my tax return. lots of choices no matter what music you like there are about 4 rock stations i like (there is more) and i listen to the comedy and sports chennels a lot too. you name it, its there anything you could want to listen to and sounds like you are in an area like me where there is no good radio stations ...then it is a must have.

Re: XM Radio...

It has real nice quality, programming leaves something to be desired, but is very nice to have on long trips. Don't like listenng to regular radio much anymore.

I got it free for buying my new 2005, but I really don't care for it, or I haven't given it a chance. I went dirt bike riding this last weekend, a 3 hour drive (that sounds alittle like giligans island). And my buddy decieced to go through the channels, I must say the comedy channel was very entertaining, but alittle too entertaining. I forgot I was driving over the Cajon pass and should have been very alert with the 20 feet visability.Too busy laughing my ass off.

Re: XM Radio...

Well, after looking on their website www.xmradio.com , I don't see the yearly fee anymore. When I signed up it was like $80-85 a year, which is a pretty good rate. I pay every 3 months about $27 or so.. I think there's many different ways you can pay. I'll find out more for you as soon as I can talk to my dealer.

Re: XM Radio...

i checked out their website and looked at the stations they have. I read some of the stuff they play on their rock stations and its the same shit thats on free radio. I did see like an indie-rock station and a punk station..which i like, but i was under the inpression that they would have a few metal stations, or even an underground H/C station. im not too much into the 80's stuff. Oh well, maybe ill just stick to downloading for free. Another friend of mine is trying to talk me into hooking an i-pod up to my radio....they cost too much.

Re: XM Radio...

Have you checked SIRUIS? They have many different stations that XM doesn't. I'm not fond of it all that much though.

Re: XM Radio...

the only reason i was gonna go with xm is because a friend of mine was gonna give me a good deal on it.

I was getting ready to suggest Sirius. I have it and love it. They have a heavy metal station (I hate it, but I don't like heavy metal) along with a couple alternative stations, couple classic rock, etc. etc.

Now personally, I like Sirius better then XM. I've listened to them both, and Sirius just has much better reception in my area. A friend of mine has XM (got it installed at the same place I got my Sirius) and his fades out constantly, and my Papaw has XM in his 04 Z-71, and it fades out as well (not nearly as bad as my friend's though, but worse then my Sirius even still).

Nigel215, I think if you give a listen to XM or Sirius, then you want be interested in regular radio ever again, lol. I have a CD/MP3 Kenwood head unit and a 10-disc Kenwood changer and I rarely ever play a CD/MP3 disc anymore, and that's all I used to play before I got Sirius radio.

Re: XM Radio...

yea, i have about the same, and about $700 dollars worth are in my truck... I figure if an I-pod gets stolen, its only $200, plus I still have all my music on my computer and on a cd.
