Transmission is wailing, what now???aripitkanen 02-21-2005, 11:06 PM 1999, 3.1L. This car has automatic transmission. It is making like a wailing noise. When I start the car the noise is not there, after one or two seconds the sound starts. I was trying to track down where the sound is coming from; I think it comes from the transmission. I can hear the sound the best when the car is idling, but it is there when I drive the car. When is press the gas pedal quickly the sound goes away for a while and comes back. It doesn't make any difference if I use P, R, N, D, 3, 2 or 1. The sound remains the same. I don't know if automatic transmission has a pump, the sound is like a cavitation sound? Maybe one of the bearings is bad? Any ideas? What could cause this sound in the transmission? How could I fix it? PS. I already checked the brake booster and the power steering, they are not making the sound… jeffcoslacker 02-22-2005, 09:04 AM Unplug and block the vacuum line to the modulator and see if the sound goes away. Have occaisionally heard damaged modulators really wail. troy1 02-25-2005, 10:47 PM more than likely the pump bearing is wasted. you probally dont have a modulator on your car. but if you do its a 4T60E if you dont its a 4T65E vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
