2003 Tacoma Brakes

Hello All,
New kid on the block. Got this great '03 Tacoma with 21K miles and of course under warranty. Twice within 21K miles I noticed that the brakes pulsated. Brought it to the dealer and both times the rotors were turned. I told them that this is very unusuale for that few miles. They said that it was my driving habits. Well folks this is my third 4wd pickup and this has never happend before. Any ideas out there.
Thanks

Re: 2003 Tacoma Brakes

Sometimes not torqueing the wheel lug nuts can cause brake rotors to warp. I wonder how much they took off them to get them true? According to specs. you can only remove a total of .079". That would be about .038" for each side. After being turned two times I suspect the rotors are now too thin. Of course that doesn't answer your question on why they needed turning the first time. I suppose a wheel that has a wobble in it or bad tires could cause the problem. I assume you do not ride or otherwise overwork your brakes.

I would take it right back to the dealership that turned the rotors and make them mic the rotors for thickness. If the rotors are out of tolerance, they should replace them free of charge (especially if they let you leave with rotors they turned that were out of tolerance).

Re: Re: 2003 Tacoma Brakes

Hey Clifton,
Thanks for the Reply. Nope! I do not ride my brakes. What is surprising is that they dismissed the fact that the rotors were turned twice. Based on what you mentioned I'm bringing the truck in for rotor micing.
Thanks Again, Hank
