I'd recommend buying a repair manual. Makes the job much easier, and there's pictures to look at. Replacing the ignition switch on my 86 was pretty easy. Just had to take off the cover under the steering column, remove the bolts holding the steering column up, and take two other electrical things off. Took about an hour.
