oil change

93 Camry SE V6 92k. I just got it and am going to change oil. Shall I go to Toyota dealer or Wal-mart? (Wal-mart looks cheaper but what is the difference compared to the dealers?)

Another thing is my fuel comsumption looks not very good. The local mpg is only 17. I have changed air filter and tire pressure is ok. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!

First of all you can do all these things yourself. No there is no difference in getting an oil change from wal-mart or the dealer. All it is, drained oil, new oil filter and new oil. For the fuel consumption, try cleaning out the throttle body, open the plate inside and spray some carb cleaner and use a old toothbrush and brush all that gunk out. also throw in a fuel system cleaner into your gas tank and fill it up. That should take care of the fuel consumption.

Good Luck

Re: oil change

The result of getting an oil change at Walmart or the dealer is the same. The consequences may be totally different. If you value your car, you won't bring it to anyone except a mechanic you trust. If you trust Walmart, you are uninformed.

When I change my oil, I buy the filters at Toyota and buy the oil at Walmart. Buy a good brand name oil such as Vavoline. I use the synthetic blends, but that's just my choice.

If you want to bring it to someone to have the oil changed, I'd go to Toyota. I'd never bring my car to Walmart to have it serviced, for any reason. Like Brian said, the best option is to bring it to someone you know and trust.

As for fuel consumption, in cold weather it will get less milage, especially if you only drive it short distances. How's the milage on the highway over a longer distance?

Thanks for all of you guys. I am very appreciate. I did not test fuel consumption on the high way yet. Generally if I drive both high way and local, the mpg is around 20.
