Question fuel pump noise on 6cyl 2000 Express Van

I have a high pitched noise that progressively gets louder the longer the engine is on. The every so often, the engine will also randomly choke and stall while driving. I had the fuel pump replaced ($700 ouch!) and the sound went away for about 2 weeks, but is now back although it is not as loud. Is this a normal flaw in this van or is the "new" pump also fixing to fail. Could it be caused by bad gas (will a cleaner/higher octane gas help?)

Are you sure the sound is coming from the pump?

Re: fuel pump noise on 6cyl 2000 Express Van

The Dealership mechanic and an independent mechanic both said that was it. The Dealership mechanic said that the fuel pump in these things is normally noisy anyway, but this volume was a sign that it was "fix'n to go". Sorry it took so long to get back to you, but I had it replaced again (warrenteed this time) and then we went on vacation in the van. It did okay until the gas tank got down to 1/8th of being empty. The thing choked and stalled all the way to the gas station. I think the pump is probably okay now but they must have messed up the gage calibration somehow when installing the pump because it's fine as long as I keep it at 1/4 tank or above. Thanks for the reply.
