Question 2000 Creak and Groan

My 2000 GTP 2dr Cpe just turned over 119,000 miles.

It still has all of the original suspension bushings, motor mounts and whatever else is under the hood is stock. Except for belts, brakes, filters, tires and other routine maintenance items.

The car drives very noisily now unlike when new. Creaking and Groaning as power is applied or the throttle is released. My thoughts are the motor mounts and other bushings related to the suspension are probably worn and need replacement.

Also, how many miles do those CV joints last, they will need replacing too I would imagine.

Does anyone have any kind of R&R procedure for the motor mounts or know where to get one on the net?

All Info would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Re: 2000 Creak and Groan

I just replaced my drive axles at 130k. The honestly were in fairly good shape (except one leaking boot). I just had the whole front end apart and since I got them pretty cheap, decided to change them now, instead of a month from now.... We all know how that goes when you decide NOT to fix something.

Don't know if that helps much, other than mine were pretty good at 130k.

Sure sounds like your engine is moving under a load. I just had the same problem.

Upper mounts are very easy to do yourself. You can replace stock bushings with polyurethane in about an hour and a half. If lower mount is going, that's much less a do-it-yourself job since it requires lifting the engine. Cost me about $275 to have the lower done. Upper mounts were $69.99 from 3800 performance. Complete step-by-step procedures for R&R of upper mounts can be found at http://www.xtremeperformancestores.c...m_install1.htm

I commute from Victorville to Hollywood five days a week. The round trip is about 200 miles. I just started driving the Pontiac. I bought a 2000 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner two months after I purchased the GTP, the truck is what I have driven up to about Oct 2004. My truck just turned over 245,000 miles.

The commute is insane, no one should drive as far as I do, I've been doing it for 16 years.

Wow. I used to drive from Lancaster to El Segundo every day and I thought 83 miles one way was bad. I feel your pain.
