R. defrost = radio static

Greets,

2000 Intrigue GL

Every time I activate the rear defrost, the radio loses reception. Turn off deforst... reception is clear again.

I understand that the wires on rear window serve both needs, but is anyone else experience this issue?

Thanks,
Jaws

the wires in the very upper portion of the window are for antenna, the others are for defrost.

Re: R. defrost = radio static

Plus the two vertical lines are for the antenna. The owners manual says that if the glass gets scratched, then the radio reception would loose quality. But that doesn't quite explain why it only happens when the defrost is on.

Do all the defrost lines work correctly?

When you activate the electric defroster it sets up an electric field across the wire grid lines and the electromagnetic wave propagation interferes with the ability of the antenna to receive radio frequencies.
