Sticking gas pedalmallen810 02-15-2005, 09:59 PM Has anyone ever had any problem with with gas pedal being hard to press sometime were as seems to have a catch or something. Does not do all the time just sometime when i am coasting to a stop then eccelerate again it kind of sticks till you press hard. 99 silverado 5.3 :p rfc_13 02-15-2005, 10:03 PM Yeah man. Thats the same problem I have in my 72 Cutlass. I tryed a couple of things to sort it but nothing seems to work. Silverado Brethern 02-15-2005, 10:29 PM Clean your throttle body and lubricate the moving parts that control it. kenny-1907 02-15-2005, 10:33 PM If i remember correctly there was something in this forum about that problem and i even think that there is a TSB about it , something to do with modifying the throttle plate. Try doing a search through the forum about the issue and see what you can find, or call the dealership about it to see if there is a TSB. buttnekked 02-16-2005, 02:51 AM my 99 5.3 has same issue from time to time. Problem is carbon build up on throttle body. The carbon builds up in front of the plate on bottom and creates a bump you have to get past. Clean the carbon build up and lube the lever the throttle cables moves and you should see major improvement. nineball481 02-16-2005, 06:25 AM My 2000 has the same issuse. Usually from a stop, is when it happens. Very annoying when you are in a parkinglot and need just the smallest amount of gas. Get over that bump then the truck launches. Very entertaning for anyone else in the truck. They never believe that the pedal is stuck....go figure. jeverett 02-16-2005, 08:29 AM It's carbon buildup in the throttle body. Take off the intake hose and using some carb cleaner, clean out the throttle body as best you can. termiteturf 02-25-2005, 03:51 PM My Silverado 2000 was doing the same but I found the solution. The gas pedal would stick right after being in park. Problem and solution: (Sorry, but I am not a mechanic nor have a reference manual to know the name of the parts) The plastic nut at the end of the accelerator cable linkage "diaphram" (there are two cables that end here) needs to be tighten by hand or replaced if lost. This is located at the front of your engine, slightly under the black, plastic air intake duct. When the gas pedal is all of the way up (engine ideling), a movable metal plate on the cable "diaphram" makes contact with a stationary metal plate which seems to be megnatized, therefore making both "plates" stick. The dealership wil charge about $70.00 for something this simple. RickMan 02-25-2005, 11:58 PM I have a 99' 4.3. Had the same problem and took it the dealer (was still under warranty at the time). They said they had to clean the throttle body. Worked fine ever since (about 2 or 3 yrs. ago). nineball481 02-27-2005, 03:16 PM Well, I opened up the throttle body today and WOW!. I couldn't believe how much crap was in there. So, I took the carb cleaner and a wire brush to it. Now it looks and operates like new. I appreciate the help with this, I would have never guessed the throttle body as the culprit. Thanks again all. nrlemons 02-27-2005, 06:40 PM is it okay to spray carb cleaner in the throttle body while its on the engine like you would do with a carb? nineball481 02-27-2005, 06:48 PM That's how I did it. I took off the intake hose, sprayed a little bit of the carb cleaner (with the engine off) then scrubed it with a small wire brush. I had to keep the throttle open by using a pair of visegrips, then once I scrubed the TB I wiped it clean with a dry rag. Nigel215 02-28-2005, 08:58 AM yea, i even just sprayed the carb cleaner on a clean rag and cleaned it with my finger... i guess you could use a brush if you really want to get into it. FYI... this probably wont be the last time you will to this with these trucks. jeverett 02-28-2005, 09:15 AM yea, i even just sprayed the carb cleaner on a clean rag and cleaned it with my finger... i guess you could use a brush if you really want to get into it.
