98 Taurus High RPM's after replacing tranny

I just replaced tranny and now when I shift from Drive to Neutral or Park, RPM's stay high (around 2000). And when car is in Neutral or Park I push gas pedal RPM's go up to 3000 or more and don't want to go down.
Some ideas. Thanks
