MIG weldernd08 02-13-2005, 02:17 PM I was just wondering what you think is the best value for the price is on MIG welders. I was looking to purchase one for patching the quater panels around the wheel well. Profish00 02-15-2005, 01:25 PM Get the 130 amp or higher, I bought one on ebay, Get the lincon or astro refriedskid 07-28-2005, 12:26 AM i bought a 210 and it is a badass. if your going to do some light work, the miller 175 is a great deal for around $750..i made the mistake of buying locally, you can fish on the net and find good licolns or millers with free delivery and if its out of state, NO tax. i saw my 210 forsale, cheaper, with free ship, no tax and they thru in a auto dark helmet. DO NOT go with a cheap chinese mig, they are priced around $300, harbor freight carries this junk..your pissing your moeny away. american built welders are well supported with parts and service, chinese shit is just that 72_supernova 07-28-2005, 04:09 AM i bought a 210 and it is a badass. if your going to do some light work, the miller 175 is a great deal for around $750..i made the mistake of buying locally, you can fish on the net and find good licolns or millers with free delivery and if its out of state, NO tax. i saw my 210 forsale, cheaper, with free ship, no tax and they thru in a auto dark helmet. You should hopefull know what that is and does if your considering buying one but just in case you don't it is called a shielding gas and it basically shields your weld and gives it better penetration, makes it stranger, and makes it look 100% better. Even though you would grind/sand down the weld after your done on the quaters you will find infinit uses. Check out Millers and Lincolns websites to help you make your decision on which one you want then start checking out Ebay or classifieds. Goos Luck. refriedskid 07-28-2005, 05:03 PM True make sure to get a good welder such as lincoln or a miller, but you should also make sure that it is able to hook up to a CO2 tank. CO2 works well if your welding almost straight down. if your welding over head the gas is too heavy, argon mix works best, its expensive but it work. to get around gas altogether, use rosen core wire, the weld arent as pretty but you can weld out side with heavy winds. the 175 and the 210 from miller come with a MIG regulator and hose or can just be used as a wire feed only. wow, 72_supernova 07-28-2005, 05:43 PM CO2 works well if your welding almost straight down. if your welding over head the gas is too heavy, argon mix works best, its expensive but it work. to get around gas altogether, use rosen core wire, the weld arent as pretty but you can weld out side with heavy winds. the 175 and the 210 from miller come with a MIG regulator and hose or can just be used as a wire feed only. wow, Thats true but for the type of weilding he is doing he could just stick with CO2 and shouldn't have any problems. Or if he really wants to get serious and has the buget I would highly recomend getting a TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welder. Most likley way to expensive and overkill though just for patching some quaters. And as for welding outside if its moist out then be sure to spray your welds with a primer after welding 'cause you'll get surface rust in about a day or sooner depending on conditions. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
