383ci and IROC computer?

i was just wondering i'm building a 383ci motor, i was just recently tossing around the idea of finding an old iroc with a blown motor or something and just transferring all the computer/fuel injection stuff onto the 383ci. But i was wondering if the IROC computer would be able to read the extra stroke and cubic inches. Because i would really like to go fuel injection instead of carb. If anyone has any ideas or information regarding this subject that would great. thanks for the replies. Also this motor is going in a third gen camaro. thanks.

Re: 383ci and IROC computer?

Yes a blown 350 motor is your best bet to get a complete sensor set with intake cheap. Your planning to go TPI right? and you will have to get a custom chip made for your motor. A TPI maf fuel injection system will be able to accept changes that you've made without major driving issues unless you have a radical cam but for power and drivability your best bet is to get a custom chip. You might also check to see is someone is selling a complete TPI induction system. Good luck.

Re: 383ci and IROC computer?

I pretty sure i can find someone who can get me the complete setup, manifold, injectors, sensors, throttle body, and IROC computer. Any guesstimations on about how much a custom chip will run me? Also i was going to be ordering a couple goodies for my engine here in a little bit like, a harmonic dampner (was thinking about a fluidampner, heard they're pretty kick ass), and a electric water pump, any suggestions on some brand names and such would be great. Also what is a good gallons per minute flow rate for an electric water pump? (i looked at one from Proform and it was like 35-37gpm, is that good?) One last bit of information that might help you all out in providing me with your knowledge, here's my setup: I've got an older model 4 bolt block (#3970010, someone told me this was a good block because it contained higher nickel and tin percentages than most blocks, any truth to that?) i've got a 4340 forged eagle crank, 4340 eagle h-beam rods (already been shot peened to relieve stress and a set of forged aluminum SRP 8.0:1 pistons. Couldn't get the 195cc AFR's right now but over summer i'm sure they won't be a problem. One last bit of info, reason for such low compression is this will eventually be a turbo setup. thanks for the replies.

Re: 383ci and IROC computer?

Any way you look at it your going to have to get a new chip burnt. Youd need bigger injectors and would need the fuel and spark maps redone or else it would run like crap.

305 chips wouldnt be any good for a 350. It doesnt cost that much to get a custom chip burnt. Alot of people can do it themselves or you can take it to a shop and have them tune it on a dyno which would be the best.

Re: 383ci and IROC computer?

your gonna need a lot of gas. super high volume fuel pump is going to be necessary for that much displacement and a turbo on top of it. also make sure the injectors will flow enough fuel for the amount of boost you plan to have. a set of eight injectors could get expensive. otherwise it sounds like you have a really good plan. also, i don't have the exact info with me at the momment, but some blocks do have different nickel and tin percentages in them to make them stiffer, if I remember correctly, those blocks have a 010 or 030, stamped on the block, underneath the timing cover. If you want me to find the exact number I can, I just don't have my book with me right now.
Also, any computer you pull, you will need a custom burned chip. if you are planning on puttin the turbo on later, then you can probably get away with using the factory chip for a while (with reduced performance), and then get the custom chip when you get the turbo. I belive you can and I don't see a problem with it, but don't take my word for it.

Re: 383ci and IROC computer?

i found one on ebay would something like this work...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...e=STRK:MEWA:IT

also i know i will have to get bigger injectors once i get the turbo (the turbo probably won't be added for maybe 6-8 months, gotta get some more money), but will these 305 injectors be ok for my 383 or will i need to find bigger ones? Also if you could tell me just what i would need to do to make this fit or work with my 383 that would be great. One last thing i'm using early model heads, i remember someone mentioning something about 88 and up TPI not fitting early model heads, any truth to that? thanks, you all have been great.
