alarm malfunction

Just bought a '99 Cabrio. An alarm sounds if you start the car without a seatbelt on. Frustratingly, it remains on, after putting on the seatbelt. It is much quieter but won't switch off. Sometimes it is a little louder, sometimes a little quieter but it never seems to switch off. any ideas?

Is the the same alarm sound as the door alarm?

If so there is a relay for this alarm that you can take out. Its on the relay pannel under the dash where the fuses are. It looks like a relay but has a speaker on the end. You can just take it out.
