my grand am is going nuts the alternator and battery are fine but it will run for a few mins and then all dash lights will come on and the car will die if u give it gas it will stay running and the charge light will go out and then u check it will and charging meter and it says its charging but let of the gas and light returns and the car will start to die and then recheck charging and its not and wont start till u recharge the battery i we had battery and alternator check all are fine we changed the dash and wondering if maybe there is a short behide it and is killing the battery i was told its a live wire grounding out where to start to look for that also i notice that the redefroster botton is jammed on would this cause the car to die so quickly since we changed the dash we had to unplug the computer would i have to have my computer codes reset and how do i do this or would it be the computer thats causing all the problems before i changed the dash my daytime running lights worked and now they only come on when i put the car in gear please help someone

was this prob. starting before or after you did whatever to your dash?

it happened after we changed the dash but we used all the same wiring harness and gadges we only changed the dash itself

Okey doke. Then the most likely thing to do is to pull the dash back out, look VERY carefully at all the wiring, inch by inch, as much as you can trace. As you thinking, you may have scraped a wire to open and ground out.

Recheck all of your connects to dashcontrols, ensure they tight, and that they not corroded or the plug is fraying where the wires enter the connector plug.
